The USA Ryder Cup team could be a train wreck

I dont see why people even think the US is a dog in this. I think US is running away with it if they do it right. Course should be perfect for US team and can take advantage of last half of Euro team.

You can't really ever expect a runaway though can you? Just about every RC plays out the same way no matter who ultimately wins. EU plays like it's an opportunity for greatness and the US plays like it's a risk of humiliation and by doing so, often is humiliated

Why wouldn't I expect it with 2 of the last 3 complete blowouts on US. The one loss was an all time choke job which was looking like another blowout. I expect it again. It always gets brought up how Europe has done well but never mentioned that the US has killed them on their courses setup their way just like Europe does on their turf.

after yesterday's performance how many want Cantlay as their partner in alternate shot or four ball...the US team has a lot of mediocre putters and those who run hot or cold...Cantlay looks to be the most solid of anyone on the team with the flatstick ....maybe not quite in YJS league but darn close

IMO its Spieth, Finau, and Schauffle......which leaves Three picks....I hope its Na, Scheffler, and ?

It has to be Harris English. Better year in solely PGA Tour results than Na and Scheffler. Kind of tough to leave the world #11 and 10th ranked player in RC points off of the team and take lower rated players with weaker playing resumes. Especially those that have not won a PGA Tour event. Na is OWGR #30. Scheffler is OWGR #21. No circumstance Scheffler gets picked over English.

Both Na and Scheffler at this point are also well behind English in the RC points standings and currently trail or are tied him (Na) at the Tour Championship.

Whistling Straits is a big ball park. Which works against Na. Kisner is also a wildcard. Like Na his length is a concern though like Na his putting prowess might offset that. Both Na and Kisner missed the cut in the 2015 PGA at Whistling Straits. Na was T58 at the PGA Championship there in 2010. Fun to speculate.

Agree. Plus he’s playing well at east lake.

They already have one (or two) controversial players in DeChampeau (and maybe Koepka); they certainly don't need Reed.  Patrick tries to put the I in team.

Outside of Rahm no one on this European team really scares me.  The only reason we lost in 2018 was because the European captains picks went 9-3-1 while the US captain's picks went 2-10. Below are the records of both Captains picks.

Europe

casey= 1-1-1

sergio=3-1-0

poulter=2-2

stenson=3-0

USA

bryson=0-3

phil=0-2

tiger=0-4

finau=2-1

Legitimate question: who is Bryson gonna play with?  I know Spieth/JT will play together. I can see Brooks playing with Finau. I'm sure Dustin, Cantlay, and Morikawa can play with almost anyone. So where does that leave Bryson? Seems to me like he's kinda the oddball/last resort partner.

one thing you have to consider if you play him in alternate shot is that he plays a Bridgestone ball, most of the guys on the team I think are either Pro V1/1X or TP5 staffers, TW is the only other guy who might play a similar type ball to BDC...in 4 ball its not a factor

Doesn't Bryson play a very low spin ball?

Agreed on Harris. He’s had a great year and finished well in the 2015 PGA at WS. NA has played out of his mind the past two weeks so could be a great captains pick.

Why bring star signs into it? Not sure astrology is very wide spread amongst RC captains.

Joking aside - yeah unlike many in this thread, I think chemistry counts for a lot. In no small part because players themselves keep saying it is. In many build-up and post-game/tournament interviews the Euro players put strong emphasis on the team morale and support from their team mates.

I know we like to say things like "highly trained athletes", "professionals" etc. and there's no denying that they are.. But first and foremost they're human. They were human long before they were golf players, and that must count for something.

Humans like and thrive under reinforcements, positivity and gets energised from those around them.

Just chuck him with Cantlay.  Bryson can gripe and complain his way around, and Cantlay will just maintain status quo and operate forward.  Bonus points for pairing Cantlay's putter with Bryson off the tee.
