The USA Ryder Cup team could be a train wreck

Well that’s the US Team confirmed them. The six captains picks:-

Daniel Berger

Harris Einglish

Tony Finau

Xander Schauffele

Scottie Scheffler

Jordan Spieth

The biggest story is likely there being no room for Patrick Reed.

Not sure (outside of Spieth and Schauffele) that any of those will strike fear into the Euro team.

all good players, and surely deserving of the pick, but the US team is interesting this year.

Who do we pick if Koepka can't play?

With his experience of last minute call ups to replace an ailing Koepka, there is only one man for the job:-

Captain’s picks aren’t normally fear makers. Outside of Poulter that is.

When was the last time Scottie Scheffler won anything? Kevin Na or Kisner would have been better. Collin Morikawa is qualified but he has not been playing very well in the last 3 weeks. Hope he doesn't play too much the first two days.

Because it’s match play, I don’t care who got wins or even top 10s.  An individual player cannot control a leaderboard.  I care about who makes birdies and minimizes bogeys.

Given birdie or better percentage and birdie to bogey ratio stats; the Berger and Scheffler picks are good.  As are the other four picks except one - Finau.  The guy who should be on the team in place of Finau is Webb Simpson.

Na and Kisner would have been good fan picks, fun, and out of the box.  PGA politics wins again.

But again, Finau (everyone’s nicest guy winner), great guy, not that great RC pick.

The US will try to make it a bomb and gouge birdie fest. The Euros put more emphasis on hitting the fairway first then worry about always making par before making birdie when they control the setup.  But Na and Kisner and Reed can really annoy opponents in match play because they never quit and always seem to punch above their weight so to speak.
Also, DJ and BK would rather go boating than play in these things.

all that being said if the US blows this one it will really sting. Which is what I expect to happen….

A month ago. 8 top tens in 2021 with a win and only one MC.  Pretty solid to me.

Yeah seems solid enough i suppose, i still think European players would rather play berger than Na or Horschel

Well his picks are in:

Finau

Schauffele

Spieth

English

Berger

Scheffler

I was hoping for Na and Kisner.  Maybe one of them or Reed will get in if Brooks can't play.

Does Captain Stricker have something against men named Kevin?  This needs to be investigated immediately.

They should go back to zero captain’s picks. It would take out a lot of the politicking and likely would just let the guys know who is on the team and get on with it.

Yeah but that's how you end up with a team of Brett Wetterich, Vaughn Taylor and JJ Henry. I think 6 picks is too many, 2 too few, 4 is the sweet spot IMO; I'd even be ok with 3. Let some guys play their way in and others get picked.

Scottie is a much better pick than those 2.

Agreed. Other than the one win it was a bad year really for Kiz. NLU broke down NA vs Scheffler and it is comical that someone would want NA over him when you break down the stats.

And how many winning years have we had since capts pick was adopted?

Six captain's picks and five are players ranked 7-12 in the standings. Only Reed gets left out. Probably because Spieth said so.
