Is PXG going out of business?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but is PXG going out of business? My social feeds keep getting flooded with ads for $249 and $229 drivers, and sub $100 irons. It wasn't that long ago that a PXG driver was $600+.

 

Why the fire sale? Normally fire sales are followed by closures.

I would be willing to bet my home equity that PXG has never made more sales in its short history and is the largest from a player participation standpoint, same period. This will continue as outreach and availability is also seemingly expanding.

They are the new Ping, except that when you call PXG, they have actual product to sell and ship, rather than a nebulous promise 4 months from now.

That has been the PXG model for years. 

 

Step 1 = Release a new club

Step 2 = Charge 3x what it is worth

Step 3 = Wait 6 months

Step 4 = Discount that same club 50%

Step 5 = Release another new club and start all over

They're not selling the new stuff for those prices, it's a way to potentially get new customers into the brand and get rid of old inventory at the same time.

The new Ping..great comment,read ex Ping staff,designers made the prototypes etc,and it can be clearly seen early product was, um, interesting.But latest product lines are genuinely good stuff.Putters,Wedges,very very interesting... so mass appeal of the brand will be a lot wider now.Also Wonderful to see Lydia Ko win ..future looks bright at PXG

I think they just have too much inventory and looking to dump them. You can buy a set of 0311 gen3 for 1200 with Aerotech Fiber Shaft those was almost 3000 when they first come out. It is also fastest shipping right now

Temporary pricing.  Just goes to show how much mark-up there is on golf clubs.  To be fair, the quality continues to increase.  I personally thought Gen1 woods and putters were garbage.  It has continually gotten better.  PXG has been good for golf.

I should have clarified that I was referring to the irons, I didn't even realize the gen 4 drivers were discounted as well! But I'd imagine that bringing new customers to the brand is well worth the $230 discount on a driver for PXG.

No. "he" will however complain about the ridiculous $30 ground shipping fee though.

Where did he find a 50% off code for the $60 shipping? In all seriousness, I doubt they sell 1/50th of what Ping sells. The review have shown that the juice isn't worth the squeeze when it costs 4x as much.

Well I had a friend of mine who is a fireman order me one. So $245 all in. If it doesn't work out, off to fleabay she will go. For $245... I will put my morals aside and give him more money so he can go shoot defenseless elephants and lions in essentially cages... and make himself feel like a big boy.

If they are trying to get market share, it's working.  I never even considered PXG but couldn't resist the $ 299 Gen4 driver so I ordered one, which I received today - one week after I placed my order.  That's service.

 

Opened it at the office when it was delivered and one of my playing partners took one look at it and immediately placed an order online for the same driver.  

 

I paid $ 299, as did my playing partner, and I noticed that the price went down to $ 289 TODAY!

I myself feel the top of the line stuff is overpriced, but the new 0211 lines are the ones that are cheaper.  Sale ends today though  I believe.  Essentially it's $30 off per club.  The gen 4 0311 models are still $290 per club and $350 for the blades.  They just opened a new fitting store nearby, so I don't think they are going away anytime soon.  They are probably cleaning up on the lower end stuff, and even up selling a good amount of people drawn in by the prices of the lower end stuff.

By going Direct to Consumer, they are able to make the same amount of money while charging significantly less. They've spent years building a brand and now are about to reap the benefits. New Level and Sub 70 are starting to get real traction and they have Zero money compared to Bob Parsons.

I have tried a lot of their stuff on the range,  it is nothing special for the initial price.

 

Kind of funny that Howell III and Horschel got fed up with their stuff rather quickly.

 

The 0811X driver can't touch my G425 or my Titleist TSI2

 

Why would you buy a PXG iron when you could get a Mizuno or Ping Blueprint ?

 

All testosterone marketing.

Actually, there are. The Gen 4 stuff is half the price of the name manufacturers. And, just as good or better imo.

I love my new PXG clubs.  I have let four guys at my club hit mine and they all ordered a set.  I ordered my son a set of 0211 DC irons and the Proto X driver too.  They are great sticks.

 

Kicked my Ping i210's out of the bag by the way.
