What worked for you to stop buying stuff all the time?

Find a new playing partner who’s cheap and/or an anti-ho, and who makes you feel guilty about constantly trying to buy a better game. That personally hasn’t stopped me because I have other playing partners who are ho’s also, or are so clueless about my equipment that they don’t notice I’m playing new clubs every month!

I limit myself to one bag with an extra club (5 iron/5 hybrid) - all extras get sold ... e.g. I just bought two used fairways, some shafts and a set of irons and will soon sell one fairway, a hybrid and some shafts ... one of the iron sets will get sold in the spring. After that, I'm back to one bag and a 5 iron/5 hybrid as the extra club. I'm retired so I have to recoup costs as much as I can.

The Navy Vessel IV Pro bag:

Ping G425 Max Driver Alta CB Slate Sr

Ping G425 Max 5w / 7w Alta CB Slate R

Ping G425 4h / 5h Alta CB Slate R

One theme in here is true - I set up my hitting net and worked on my 4i/5i/5W for a while and that was a lot more productive than comparison shopping iron sets online. I also happen to be hitting good, so it made me want to put more time into my current clubs.

Imagine if I was chunking and topping everything... I'd be replacing those long sticks tonight, haha.

I do that all the time.  Then you're just stuck with it if it doesn't work out.  Unless you sell it for next to nothing or donate it.

for the last few years I limited myself to one new club per season.

last year - none.

this year, I will reshaft some irons.

I'm in close proximity to both CC and a PXG store.

Mantra -  a game cannot be bought.

lessons however, come at a fair price.

This was me. A golf store was doing new sim max for £250 and they were going for more than that on eBay second hand in reasonable condition. So I had to have one!

For me it was a combination of things.  But mostly I got to hit the sweet spot of my clubs more often as my swing got better and better over the years and slowed down buying clubs.  Golf tech has been stagnant for YEARS.   I only buy clubs that are used that have really good feel and have to be at a bargain which are few and far in between since used club prices have gone up in general because of the pandemic.

A suppressed inner ho lives vicariously through WRXers who do all the spending 🤑

Seeing great reviews of my current old clubs helps.  And pulling off all the shots, distances, shapes needed.

Getting a launch monitor. I bought a ton and tested a ton several years back. Kept the best performers and sold all the rest. Just recently, I bought a couple new “fan-favorites” to test, only to find that my current setup is still the best. Even more validation that I’m all good.

Overdose!! I flipped my bag 4 times in 2021, bought 92 clubs and 8 bags, Lol!!

Now I feel completely maxed out and want nothing more than to have a stable bag in 2022!

That being said, I just bought a Srixon Driving Iron and a Stealth Plus 3W, but I swear I’ll be done once those are in the bag! 😉🤣

So basically you are still years away from hitting Bottom. <makes mental note to: do I have anything to sell to Ballernate....>

While being a tech/gear person similar to my love for autos and performance driving (now there's an expensive hobby), I tend to buy and keep. Like many others we are still crafting our master ho skills and the fun is finding great value in things people are otherwise throwing away.

The VID has driven prices up however, demand higher then supply. Case in point I have been searching for a rogue 5w head on the cheap and prices are close to CPO Mavrik most of the time where as in 2020 they were easy to get for a song.  Somehow, I have resisted pushing the buy button on that CPO 5w that I really don't need but kinda want to tinker. So no, I'm not ready for rehab yet either. 🙂

Buying a house and keeping afloat on a single income is what shut down most of my "play" spending. lol

But most of my club buying has been supported by selling/trading other clubs, sold my m2 and Rogue drivers to buy my Sim, traded my mp4s to my old man for the current irons. Bought new wedges on clear-out pricing after selling a Scotty headcover that had increased in value since I bought it. My putter was the biggest golf purchase I've made outside of the usual float money, but no regrets there.
