Ping i59

I did an iron fitting yesterday and tried i59, t100, jpx921 tour, zx7, and t100s. Ping i59 feels solid to hit and looks good. But it launches a bit too high and spins too much. Plus the high price tag doesn’t help. I decided to go with T100.  The following is the comparison between i59 and t100. Both are 7 iron data with dg x100 shaft. Hope it helps.

Sorry if I'm not reading it right..you hit 11 balls with the t100 and 4 with the i59?

Probably hit 5 and 5 and then went back to the T100?  Fitter deletes a couple of mishits. That would be pretty standard routine for a lot of fitters.

Okay..would like to have seen the 5 vs 5..but it looks like t100 a little longer and maybe I59 a little tighter dispersion?

Ping i59 is an amazing iron. It cannot be wrong to go with i59. But so is t100. I would not want to spend $400 more for an iron with similar performance.

I'd be picking the Ping off those results if the feel was where I wanted it to be

Same.

I’ll take closer to my target over distance.

mmm but you cant compare 2 different clubs when you only hit 4 shots with one of them and about 12 with the other

Also i would be questioning why the ping is 5 yards shorter (cant just be the 300 spin) especially if they are the same loft, it might be the T100 is closer to the yardages they are use to

Ive always found Pings to be shorter in distance when comparing loft to loft, and higher spinning, which when you play in a lot of wind is not a good thing

I found a lefty head and got to hit it. I LOVE the feel of it. It feels very solid even on mishits. Everything wants to go straight. The distance just wasn't there for me, the T100 was a club longer. The salesperson was hanging over my shoulder plus the size of the head made me a little hesitant to rip through it. I was probably guiding it more than I was swinging it. Thinking about the 5 & 6 irons made me think I wouldn't be able to handle them. Take everything about this and put it into a bigger head.

I just wanted to follow up to my last experience with these. Yesterday when I wasn't under the watchful eye of the sales person, I really let go with these. Paired with the DG 105 S300 I was able to get the ball out to 155 on average (carry). Mishits were around 150 yards and well struck shots were around 160 yards.

My biggest fear was missing the ball with these! I think the smaller head really helps with your focus. I haven't hit a truly disastrous shot with these.

What could these be with the right lie angle and grip size???

I heard PING is increasing their prices today in some locations by as much as 20-25%. I'm not sure I am ready to pull the trigger yet...

Wow was I ever wrong about the i59's as I really thought they would be the next best set of irons to come out. I would take the new P790's before I would buy these. PING raising their prices too isn't going to help sales. I have no worries as my Srixon ZX5's are safe for several years to come

Why were you wrong about the irons? What was your experience with them? If you're in a set of zx5's the Ping i210's or even g425's would be a more comparable iron. It's not just Ping raising their prices, the supply and shipping issues are affecting every manufacturer and I'm almost positive prices will go up with all of them.

I just thought the i59's would be on everyones short list and from following this thread they aren't even close. Yes I know supply and shipping issues are affecting every manufacturer out there, more so for the bigger names like PING, Callaway, TM and Titleist. PING has taken the PXG approach but they are late to the ball game. I will give PING an A+ for looks but thats all especially when comparing prices.

New P790 - $186/iron

New T200 - $186/iron

New Apex - $185/iron

Ping i59 - $250/iron

and the i210's are nice but like I said my Srixon ZX5's will be with me for a very long time

Ouch!

I mean these two irons aren't even in the same category. The P770 is more like the i500, both being "Players Distance" irons. So if the i59 was here to replace the i500, it would make sense to compare but it's replacing the iBlade.

P770 isn’t a Players Distance Iron. It’s very much inline with the i59. The P790 is more inline with a Players Distance iron.

Both MGS and Golf Digest categorized the P770 as a Players Distance Iron. The I59's "hollow" design is based on MOI increase and not increasing face flex/ball speed like the P770.

i500 and P770 are in the same boat.
