Patrick Reed and Grindworks iron

I have been talking with Patrick for months about doing an interview on his Grindworks irons and I'm hoping that I'll get it done next week while I'm in SoCal for the American Express in La Qunita.

 

With Grindworks now coming out with new models available to the public, I'd like to get some insight to Patrick's involvement in any of the design aspects.

 

What I'd like to do is run a little "contest" and have Golfwrx members post the questions they would like me to ask Patrick (about the clubs).  If I select your question, I'll put together a little swag bag for you.  If there is more than one question selected, I'll send each person who's question is chosen some swag.

 

Let's keep it on topic, which is the Grindworks clubs.

I'd be curious to know what he was looking for that he couldn't find in an OEM's forged blade offering. Or if he's just a gear head and wanted to have some exclusive 1-off type clubs in the bag. Or maybe they reached out to him and instigated the project?

A fair number of pros have come out and said that there's no reason for players, of any skill level, to play blade irons. I'm wondering what his thoughts are on this considering that his bag is bladed irons.

Did PR have any older models as inspiration in mind whilst designing the Grindworks irons?

Did you have input into the design of the PR-202 or just what you wanted for flight and workability for the 3 and 4 iron?

I would like to know what is the difference in performance and design of an iron for him, comparing Grindworks with a big OEM, i'm sure he doesn't need the money and marketing, but he may get any iron set the way he likes them from any OEM, they go long ways to give every player what it needs and likes. 

 

So why Grindworks and not a big brand ?

Obviosuly with the soil texture and type changing week to week , what were the biggest things he looked for that will work week to week. Think this is the a big  difference that’s overlooked between club golfers and high level players . See many club golfers build a bag around their course versus building 14 clubs that will work in Mexico during the rainy season & st Andrew’s during a drought

Simple question I'd like to see asked:  GW seems like they make fantastic irons, as do many other OEM's and boutique/specialty iron makers (NCW, Artisan, etc).  What was it that drew him into GW and specifically if there was something about them as a company that was more attractive than the other options out there.

I have been following his WITB for some time and was always interested in the swapping back and forth from a few different irons... often seemed to land back into the MB1 irons.. These Grindworks irons seem to share some similar looks to those... What is the difference in the grind on these Grindworks irons that have solidified a spot in the bag?

In order to get these particular irons suited to your preferences and needs, did you pick characteristics you have liked in previous irons? Not necessary to name particular clubs (unless want to do so) , just curious if this was sort of an opportunity to combine favorite ideas of clubs you had success with in the past?
