Watching the 3M tournament just now… Vegas makes a nice putt for eagle that barely misses.  Doesn’t touch the hole, and leaves himself with a tap in.

Nobilo says “He couldn’t have hit a better putt”.   I’ve drained some memorable putts in my life, and recall a couple extremely tough two putts. But a moderately downhill twenty footer with 18 inches of break that doesn’t touch the hole?

Guess that’s why my remote has a mute button!

My pet peeve phase.  Any shot in deep rough form anywhere.  “He’ll be lucky to get this within 25 feet, or even keep it on the green”

Player proceeds to stick it to 3 feet to which said announcer claims it as the “shot of the week” 😂😂😂

The use of unnecessary words and phrases to sound intelligent does it for me. Dottie Pepper is the worst at this, but they all do it: “He really needs to elevate this golf shot to avoid the bunker complex short of this green complex. Too much velocity and the golf ball will find itself covered in (insert grass type of the week here) which is the deepest on the golf course.”  I’d much prefer a Boo Weekley type just say: Needs to hit a high one here so it carries the front bunker and stops.

This x 1000

Calling the green the “putting surface” gets me.

Also the absolute refusal by some to say the word “water”. Hit the ball in the water? Nope. Penalty area. Wet grass? Nope, that’s moisture. Raining? No way. That’s moisture again. Possibly precipitation. Drink some water? Not that guy. He’s hydrating.

They said water plenty of times today regarding the 18th hole.  124 balls were hit into the water there this week.   And I think they mentioned that 124 times 😬

My recent one from the last few years is "as good as he could have done", and for two reasons. First, it virtually never is. When the guy is short sided in a bad lie and only has 6ft of green to work with, landing it 3ft on resulting in the ball chases by 10ft is NOT "as good as he could have done" because there was obviously several ways in which it *could* have been better. It is simply the wrong phrase in a "could care less" kind of way in that the CORRECT phrase would be "as good as he could have EXPECTED". You don't *expect* to stick it close from trouble, but it can happen. But any marginally successful shot is not "the best they could have done", that is just obnoxiously hyperbolic and dumb.  😅

Also not a cliche - but for some reason I'm often peeved by people saying "left to right". It just feels superfluous, and you almost never hear anyone say "front to right" or any other direction.. Can't we just lave the "x to" bit out and say "this hole goes to the left" instead of "this hole goes from right to left"?

I realise it's petty and does no harm - but I guess that's what this thread invites, so if you're struggling with other people's peeves, you're in the wrong place 🙂

(honourable mention "off the deck" is way over-used as well.. throw a "floor", "ground", "turf", "grass", "matt", "fairway" or whatever else in there every once in a while! You almost never hear anyone say "deck" in any context other than "driver off the deck")

She's the worst, just wish she'd shut up most of the time.
