Opinion on Ping?

In the last year, my views about Ping have changed dramatically! I never liked their veiny drivers or the cave in the irons hosels and I also never really cared for any of the ping staffers. However, with the drop of the G425, I realized they're starting to become a really cool looking brand! They dumbed the crown down just enough for me to like to look at it, the Blueprint irons are awesome looking, the Glide wedges are sweet looking, and they're becoming a brand I think is cool because of their ambassadors like Viktor Hovland, Finau, Champ, and Joaquin Neimann. 

 

Does anyone else have strong feelings either positive or negative about Ping? I want to go hit, and potentially get fitted, for the blueprints or the i210s but I don't think I'm ready to put my Srixons in the garage

Had the Ping G LST driver and the sound was a turnoff.  Wish their GI irons had less offset.

I don't believe PING has ever been the flashiest brand, but they've consistently made high quality products and had good customer service.  That's hard to say for too many brands.

Ping clubs flat out perform. Their drivers, woods, and hybrids are absolutely fantastic and while I'm not a fan of their irons because they are chunky and have a lot of offset your average golfer isn't going to find anything that performs better.

I have been off and on with Ping over the years. Their designs have never been my favorite, but I have always liked their marketing approach, their quality control and their customer service. 

I am really impressed with the recent Ping drivers and went from Titleist to Ping G410 and now to G425. I also did the same with the fairway woods. Now that the turbulators are gone from the fairway woods (which I don't really mind on the driver), I'm back into Ping fairways for the first time since the i25. The sound is not ideal on any of the woods but the performance is excellent. And I love the matte finish instead of the super-glossy crowns (looking at you Titleist and Callaway).

 

With irons, I prefer forged blades or forged cavity backs, so Ping doesn't have much for me. And I have never been a fan of their wedges -- too bulky -- but people seem to love their performance.

PING is basically an engineering company, who happens to make golf gear.  They're now focusing more on marketing and styling, due to John K.'s grandson, but they just work.  They're not flashy and don't just put stuff out there because the calendar turns.  They just perform and that's pretty much all that matters.

Back in the day, not too many people liked Ping clubs because they thought they looked cool.  They were just easier to hit.  They look much nicer now though.

I have one of the initial runs of the pink Bubba Watson G20s. It is an incredible driver. I had a set of Ping irons for a while, but discovered a set of King Cobra irons that were a bit more forgiving and fit me better. I'm very interested in the G425 driver and it's likely on my list for a next buy.

 

I'd agree that Ping has done a lot to ramp up it's brand in recent years.

Actually the Camry stepped up in style and performance the last few years. Everyone copied their white car and black roof.

Played Ping equipment a lot over the years. Nothing flashy, solid performance all around.  My son has been playing with Titleist stuff, everything driver to SC putters since jr high school in 2004. He's a scratch player and tries out new stuff every year, no other brand made his bag until the Ping G400 Max and he just rips it.

I'm starting to realize I'm a low key Ping fanboy. Engineering clubs around forgiveness is exactly what I want - and I just don't see the tradeoffs, unless you're a pro or ultra in tune with your sound/feel preferences that Ping doesn't suit. 

 

In looking for other drivers, I've hit pretty much everything else in 2020/2021 lines and I can't beat a Ping within my desired launch conditions. Just as quick, and more forgiving, than anything else out there. I don't see why more golfers don't use Ping products, honestly. They just seem to perform.

If I were gonna go with one brand for every club in the bag it'd be PING. Their offerings work and they stand behind their products better than any major OEM in the business.

I’ve always been with the Ping Gang. Equipment might not look the best but performance and feel always are good in their clubs.

Maybe because it's family owned, but Ping strike me as the most authentic to their roots.  Mizuno also.

I have tried every driver to kick my G410 out of the bag because I am not the biggest fan of the sound, but with the way it performs over every other brand, I would be a fool to play anything else.

I'll admit, the cutout in the iron shaft is a little weird.  I think it would make me feel like the head is just hanging on by a thread and could break off at any time, lol.

They are as good as the other big brand boys, really do not care about their so called ambassadors, you try them out they perform better than what you have and you fork over the money very simple.

I think we'd all be much better off if we only cared about how a golf club performed instead of how it looked.

I wonder how much of a club's price is due to the cost of designing them to look pretty?

Although they're a couple years old, the i210's are still fantastic. Great feel (especially for a cast iron), and offer ample workability while still offering foregiveness. If they're good enough for Westwood, Hovland, and Hatton to keep in the bag, they should be good enough for us amateurs.

Off the bat I will admit there’s not a club in my bag that’s not a PING. They have earned each spot over time and now I have such confidence in what they put out, rarely do I even try anything else.

A few things I like about PING...

 

1. They aren’t boisterous in what they do. They don’t make wild

marketing claims. They’re content to put their product out and let it be extremely consistent and stable. 

2. They don’t let the calendar influence when they release products. Iblade is on its 5th year I believe and i210 is on its 4th? They put a product out when it can put perform the last iteration. 

 

3. Golf club technology is pretty much maxed out as far as speed goes. So now you’ll see stuff become more and more forgiving. No one does that better than PING.

 

You mentioned i210. Do it! I’m on my 2nd set of them. They’re the best irons I’ve ever hit. You could not imagine the forgiveness in them. They feel incredible. The distances are so consistent.

Their irons have always been a turnoff. Their woods always had a distance problem...they were always shorter than competitors. Very straight, but sacrificed distance. Never really cared for the look of their woods either. They were also very late to the adjustable CoG game. 

 

A brand I'll likely never pay much attention to.

They’re marketing team is doing amazing! If they made more commercials featuring Hovland and the young guns then they would bring in so many more fans though. Rn I think they rely too much on bubba and oosthuizon who aren’t that “cool” to market

Their clubs perform as well as anyone else's, but their aesthetics certainly leave a lot to be desired.  Their player's irons don't look bad, but compared to some others, they don't look especially good, either.  I'd take the looks of a Mizuno or Titleist MB over the Blueprint any day.

Looks and performance aren't an either/or proposition; they can perform just as good as they look.
