So Rose starts Saturday at -7 and ends up at -5.

Why is nobody talking bout this?

Seems like a big deal to me...

Technically, Rose started on Friday at -7 (the field avg on Thu is like 74 or something). Then, he played the next 3 days 2 over par. I honestly did not see this coming.

I thought it was a pretty decent tournament. Glad to see Matsuyama win - just as I was glad to see Adam Scott win several years back. It's always cool to see someone do something for the first time.

The play on the course was obviously sketchy. So many struggling at inopportune times.

Honestly, the thing that stood out to me the most was all of brown patches on the greens. Can't say I've ever seen that at Augusta before.

viewership over the weekend was less than the Texas Valero Open......lets see what Sundays #'s were during the final stretch.....with many of the "big names" not making the cut, Tiger laid up and horrible Sunday golf from many others, the interest in this Major was not as expected.

overall it was just a horrible tournament

Thursday’s opening round of the Masters averaged a 1.5 rating and 2.30 million viewers on ESPN, up a tick in ratings and 4% in viewership from last year, when the tournament took place in November (1.4, 2.21M), but down 12% and 7% respectively from the previous April edition in 2019 (1.7, 2.48M).

The telecast, which peaked with 2.7 million viewers from 5:30-5:45 PM ET, ranks 11th out of 14 opening round windows since ESPN began airing the Masters in 2008. Only last year, 2017 (2.13M) and 2014 (2.01M) rank lower. Outside of last year, the four smallest audiences have come in which Tiger Woods did not play.

The 4% bump is on the modest side in a year when golf ratings have been on the rise. Last week’s opening round of the Texas Open, for example, increased 22% from the last time it was played in 2019. Having said that, one need only go back two weeks for a smaller opening round boost — just 1% for the WGC Match Play.

I smile every time somebody judges the quality of a tournament based on the average American watching tv 🙂

He's definitely not a feel player.  I don't know how many of those guys out there are though.  He may be the pinnacle of analytical however.

Might be a spin-off for a new thread.  Current player best described as a feel player and historically (cap it at last 30 years) who was the most?

In the past 30 years? Maybe Nick Faldo. I thought he was known for being very mechanical.

Not to mention The Master's app being the best around, so many options to watch what you want, when you want... TV ratings don't take streaming into account

I completely agree. Unless you're a network executive, to even concern yourself with such mundane thoughts, is positively inane.

I'm starting to think he had the accident on purpose, this way he will qualify for a TUE for basically anything.  If cyclists can get TUE's for asthma conditions that are life-threatening,  Woods will be able to have robotic vertebrae and rocket launcher shoulders.

@imakaveli

Exactly guys.  If you use @tsecor metric that a good tournament is defined by TV ratings, then the final round of The Masters has been in steady or declining greatness for decades.🤣

I didn't do the exact correlation analysis, but the spikes were often related to a popular player like Tiger or Phil winning or close battle.  Though Tiger winning isn't a guarantee to a big Sunday viewership... such as 2001 vs 2002 both won by Tiger yet dramatically lower rating in 2002.  Or Tigers comeback win in 2019, still lower than previous years.

Basically this tells me that TV ratings me Jack S...T when it comes to the quality of a tournament.

Can't use the name or likeness of Hideki for advertising as he is not paid by Cameron/Titleist. Happens all the time in golf.
