Would you rather see older tour vets or young guys win?

Stuart Cink's win at the RBC had me pondering this question since I feel like it is pretty relevant right now.  I personally really enjoy seeing the players I have grown up to and watched for years winning golf tournaments (so this would be anyone late-30s and older).  I have always liked Cink and after all he went through via his wife's condition, it's cool to see him come back on tour and be successful.  I am sure a lot of people reading will disagree with me, and I welcome a civilized convo about it, but I would much rather see the older tour vets winning events as the "young guns" do nothing for me (with a few exceptions).

Firstly a great win last week by Mr Cink, he was very impressive.

It’s nice when the more experienced players win, because often the have a story that comes with it. Whether it’s tragedy or loss of form etc. It gives us more insight in to who they are as a person. And can make them more relatable as you have shared part of their journey.

They won’t be there forever though. The players I grew up watching are either not playing competitively anymore, on the senior tour or no longer with us.

But I really like some of the younger players, they are fearless on the course but also speak so well off of it. It’s been really refreshing.

It’s nice to have both, and amazing that the game still affords us this. But there is nothing wrong with having a few “heel” type characters of any age. There are still a few older players who fall in to this category for me.

Personally I just enjoy close tournaments with a variety of approaches winning. Saw the Patrick Reed hate already in this thread but it amazes me to watch a guy play a hook and hit it crappy all week while managing to pull out a victory like Jordan Spieth.

I love the variety of potential winners week in and week out.  I would definitely like to see some Sunday suspense though for sure.   These runaway style victories are a bit anticlimactic.

On a side note, just pleased a bomber didn’t win this tournament so I don’t have to listen to the rollback crowd for at least another week 🤣

I like both.  I suppose my least favorite is someone like DJ winning, not because I don’t like him, but it just doesn’t make me feel anything watching one of the best in the world do what is expected of them, unless it is a big tournament like the masters.  Other than that, I like it when the underdogs win...

I like seeing older guys compete, however I would rather have a bunch of guys competing on the back nine on Sunday.  Clink ended this tourney Friday night.

I said the same thing, in 09 when Watson lost the Open he deserved to win. Congrats to Cink he played very well the first two days and he played well on the weekend, but just didn't drain as many putts. Cink's little tap in routine is scary, he looks like he has the zips from 3 feet on in.

I don't care about age when it comes to winning.  I am 70 and like playing against and beating younger guys.  All I care about is seeing the best golfer bringing his best game to the course and taking the win.  Stuart Cink's winning RBC was good to see.  His game clearly out-performed the field.  However, let's not overlook his success was helped by the course design not being too kind to others that sprayed the ball or wanted to overpower the course too much.  RBC is always target golf at its best.

For the most part, the ole guy 😛kept his ball in play and thought his way around the course with the help of his son.

Cink sprayed the ball quite a bit off the tee. He was T104 in driving accuracy. The equalizer was his iron play/short game. T1 greens in regulation with negative strokes gained putting the final two rounds.

No, no no. As soon as a bomber wins it's game over for the moderate length hitters.

I don't care for Reed, but at the end of the day it's the best score than wins the tourney be it him.  Don't have a problem with it.  As for the OP's post, it's good to see both the vets and young guns win.  Keeps things interesting week to week.  The youngin's need to win in order to retain status on tour and be exempt for certain events and the vets need to win in order to feed their families and to instill confidence in themselves that they can still perform at the highest levels.

I suspect your stat definition of spraying and mine are different, but thanks.  I don't pay attention to what the PGA collects or what the media says.  Most of those yokels can't even hit the ball, but they excel with calculators.  Critical wannabees come to mind.  LOL

I watched Cink each day.  Everyone misses the fairway now and again, the question is, does spraying cost a stroke?  Cink didn't pay the piper for his errors thanks to iron play and scrambling.

Neither, i want to see someone right in that juicy white-meat age of 32-39. That's the only time anyone can be likeable

Anyone under 30 is just another bro, and anyone over 39 is cranky and probably yells at clouds.
