I don't think you can go wrong with any generation, but I picked the current. Well they were all athletes in they're time we are seeing both physical and mental approach pushed as far as possible with most pros. It would be a treat to play them and also to pick their brain on the new athlete age we're in (mostly)

Well in this fantasy world, I'd go '81 to '99 because that's when I was young and because:

a) I don't like Greg Norman and I would enjoy beating him;

b) playing Faldo and Ballesteros in their prime would be a cool thing;

c) Woods was too dominant 2000-2008 so that would suck.

I look at the course, equipment and players of the 20s to 60s period.  Golfers then had to overcome equipment limitations and course conditions to find their score.  Their thinking, adaptability and creativity made the difference, and they were NOT in the best of shape.

Since 1981, equipment has greatly improved as well as course conditions improved.  The game becomes easier every year.   What my relative had to overcome in the fifties on the PGA and what current crop of tour players deal with are night and day.  Today's crop is NOT IMO the best, because everything surrounding the game of golf is made optimal, so performance is greater.

The oldest guys up there.  I would suspect I am a bigger dude than most all of them and would get my tailor to cut my tweed a little looser to let me get a full shoulder turn on the ball.  I might even sneak some whittled wooden tees out there and beat the old sand-pilers.  Id' go ahead and bend my rut iron to 60* and try out a flop shot on them.  Plus no 14 club limit back then either iirc.  I could have a stick for every occasion. Straight gutties.  Not even going to monkey with a feathery.

yeah i'm kinda with this, i mean i'm a bit worried that i wouldn't be able to hit their old gear , but a general rule of thumb is that we are far superior to the people who came before us, so i think i'd have a good shot with a bit of range time

Plus i'd mock their appearance, like i assume dress code doesn't fall under equipment, so i'd have under armour clothes and Ecco shoes or something. I'd be like "don't you lot look funny!" and speak to them in a very condescending manner.

Jack's - after all, the fields were so weak teachers on holiday made cuts, the guys winning majors were tremendous slouches compared to the 3rd tier of current PGA Tour players and music and cars in the 60s and 70s were a lot better than today!

Jack's era if you could just stand upright and had the opposable digits to grip a club you were guaranteed to finish 3rd every event, after him and Watson

The advantage to playing the really old guys is that they are not playing very well, anymore.  Being dead, and all!

Could a 4 handicap beat a dead guy?

From "21" to "61" below 3rd or 4th place, there was no money, players were showered with all sorts of equipment, yet they fought like dogs.  The men that played back then IMO were more like party hounds and junkyard dogs with game.  They were tough.

Today's crop many are kinda like beagles chasing their tails, and if they catch their tail, low and behold they are in big money.  Then they do the duh, I don't know on the mic for viewers to shake our heads.  LOL

Don't get me wrong, playing in the events of post 1999 is something I would never get tired of.  Modern tour players have it way easier than ever in history.  However, I would have to go with the Jones-Hagen era, amateur golf was as prestigious as it gets back then and also shooting in the low 70s was competitive on a regular basis.

81 to 99 for me. Chance to get a few short game lessons from Seve and Olazabal, compete with Sandy and Faldo and have a few nights out we don't speak of with Daly. Technology was just starting to wake up in the late 80s with exotic materials, bigger driver heads etc, even if the golf ball hadn't caught up yet. Fashion wasn't great but you can't have everything.

Plus the music and movies were better, especially in the 90s, I could smoke in the clubhouse afterwards and there were no speed cameras on the way to the course whilst petrol was cheap.

This generation.

All the money that is on offer, no one dominant player like Tiger sweeping up major titles and no expectation to drink beer in the evenings (I can’t play with a hangover so would have been useless in the 60’s through to the 80’s) count me in!
