I’m in the same boat. I’m 95% keeping all my MP-18s but looking to upgrade the 4-5 iron. These HMBs have me really excited.

Right? Ideally, I would love to buy a full new set but that may not happen. At the very least, could pick up the HMB low irons to build out my bag better. I absolutely love my MB 18's and feel they are super soft, not quite mp5 soft but soft. So i'm interested to see how these compare.

I would be curious about the answer, myself. I've heard the Luke Donald sole is a bit funky in it's shaping such that even though the listed bounce is low, in reality the design is still effective at not overly digging. Don't quote me, though.

 

For what it's worth, I don't find it to be an issue on my MP-4s. I'm not a digger--my angle of attack tends to range between -2 degrees and -5 degrees. My MP-4s are bent 2 degrees strong, such that the listed bounce on my irons is as follows:

* 4i-5i = 0 degrees

* 6i-7i = 1 degrees

* 8i = 2 degrees

* 9i = 3 degrees

* PW = 4 degrees

 

In other words, the bounce on my MP-4s is the same as the bounce on the MP-20s. In practice, on turf, what I find is that I take easier divots with my MP-4s, with more of a traditional strip without really trying, whereas with other irons in the past I would more typically skim the turf or brush the grass. I also very rarely find the leading edge or sole getting in the way of my swing.

So is the HMB replacing, or at least serving the same function as the MP18 MMC Fli-Hi's? I play a Fli-Hi 4 iron and would certainly snag a HMB if it's going to play the same (or better).

The HMB apparently stands for Hybrid Muscle Back, and it looks pretty good at address, at least the one pic out there.

We need some youtube reviews on these ASAP.

HMB stands for Hot Metal Blade and replaces the flihi. They will be building them from 3-PW. Good they eliminated the SC's. No difference in numbers whatsoever between them and the muscle backs. MMC looks amazing. Across the board copper underlaying which they claim increase feel. Cant place my order soon enough. Bye Titleist....

Hopefully the MMC is more like the MP15 than the MP18 MMC which was too big/thick. I get it, that the in past iterations of the titanium insert irons were too close to the one piece irons in the range and they tried to create some breadth by making the MMC bigger and more forgiving, but I really liked my MP 15's (...and 58's) from a size/looks/feel standpoint.

Here is a man who gets it. I’m hoping for the same thing. Based on published specs, I think the new mmc will probably be a cosmetic update to the mp18 rather than a return to the mp15. We can always hope though. I’m gonna wait and see before I order.

Man I love the look of the new MMC, just looks a lot better than the 18 version. Tempted to get a 4-PW set of just the MMC, although I know a lot of folks say the feel isn't as nice.
