How many hybrids are in your bag and your age?

43 have 1 hybrid in the bag at 22*. Have a 19* and 25* at home, but I don't like them. I would get a 4i to replace my only hybrid, but it is too easy to hit out of the rough. Top of the bag goes D, 3w, 5w, 4h, 5i.

In the bag

Driver: Taylormade Sim2 Max 9*

4w: Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero

Hybrid:  Apex 19 3h 20*

Hybrid:  Apex 19 4h 23*

Irons: Callaway Apex CF 19 5i-AW

W1: Vokey SM7 54* S

W2: Vokey SM8 60* L

Putter: Swag Handsome Too

I carry two hybrids: Callaway X/R OS in 3 and 4. PX 5.5 shafts. I bought a used no. 5 but never put it in the bag. Range test showed ball flight ballooned and didn't fill any gaps. Otherwise, I carry Driver, 15º FW, 5-LW. I'm 68 years old.

Callaway EF SZ 10.5º with Kuro Kage Black in R flex
Callaway EF 3W 15º with Tensei AV Blue R flex

We're not all naïve. Using the choice of touring pros to justify your choices, as if you're that good. In case "YOU" haven't played with touring pros, they have to make cuts to make money and they have equipment contract obligations to meet, including Kevin Na. How many take 16 on a Par 4 using an iron, but that's an old topic. Money makes all tours go around. Yes, tour guys want the hybrid help but that's because of the conditions they face, weekly. Mark my word, if that wasn't an issue, many would do what Jack Nicklaus still does, pulls out his old blades including long irons when he's playing in some fundraisers.

The courses and fast greens they play require a high soft landing shots to limit run out. They NEED to make GIR as often as possible and reach Par 5's in two. Many tour green complexes are surrounded by big bunkers and or fronted by ponds and run at 12+ stemp, so coming in high is #1. Webb Simpson plays 620MB's but adjusted to hybrids to cover long irons to accommodate those conditions, as is the case for most other touring pros, even better amateurs. I don't need to do that even if I am playing like conditions because I don't need to make a cut to make a living and I get satisfaction from making long iron shots. The other day I hit 4i into a green.

Most the people on discussion boards don't play courses nearly as difficult, nor do they face fast fairways or greens or even the yardages we see on tour. So, let's not blow smoke up the readers backside as to WHY "YOU" (no one specifically) do what you do. YOU use hybrids because either your game demands them or you're a better amateur that likes them and or plays tournament conditions. I don't care what anyone choses to use or stick in their bag, even if it's a broom. Have a good day, I am off to the gym.

We'll make up your mind, do you use the advice of touring Pros or not? Which one of peppers comments should I believe below?

It's commonly said on tour, use a wedge to hole out, use a putter to get it close.

19* 3H, turning 40 in a month and playing 3-4x per week.

Weapon off the tee and great off the turf. Can’t decide between a lofted down 5W or a 3W between Driver and 3H.

Below the 3H, I’ve got a 3i Driving iron and then 4i-PW, SW, LW.

The 4i is a good indicator of my form- realistically, I should replace it with a 23* 4H, but the lower ballflight and satisfying sound/feel of my 4i keep me from doing it.

I'm 39 and play a Nike Vapor Speed 3 hybrid at 19 degrees and a Taylormade M2 4 hybrid at 22 degrees. I always liked hitting long irons but I just find it gives me more confidence to use the hybrids. I've even considered going to a 5 hybrid just to experiment but haven't gone through with it.

DB people too often use touring pro equipment choices as reason behind their own, yet touring pro motivations are totally different; they need to make cuts, meet contract obligations and they have no problems hitting long irons or blades. Average Joe, for the most part, can't do either very well without help, yet he's not honest about needing that help. Most of my buddies use hybrids, which is fine. Funny thing is each of them have made it known, they wish they didn't have to. They also know I don't knock them for their need.

I’m 51 and have 1 hybrid -19°

Driver, 4wood, 3 hybrid, 4-PW, GW, SW, LW and putter.

I could add a 21° Hybrid and drop the 4 iron, but this year has been a good one for the irons so I’m sticking with what works for now.

Interesting perspective from your buddies that would rather not hit a hybrid if they didn't have to. I completely believe them - no reason not to. An entirely legitimate position to take.

Yet, I think this just emphasizes what I've always thought about the game - there are large camps within the golf community that have very different perspectives on the game, and rarely do those camps cross paths or share opinions. I think every player in my group of golf friends uses hybrids and generally really like playing them. Don't think I've ever heard a single one of them voice the opinion that they wish they could hit a long iron instead. This group ranges from scratch, to a few single digit guys up to bogey golfers.

Sorta like how I like green chile, and some folks I know like red.

47 years old, always hated hybrids until this year:

1 hybrid: Apex 19: 20 degree.

It's long.

A 5 wood replacement that can be used out of the rough.

Looking into a Super Hybrid 17 to replace my 3 wood... we'll see.

Good point! I see it as some folks will hit whatever is necessary to score and play only to score while others want to look good and play in a certain 'correct' way. For instance if a person in the first camp can hit a 100 yard chip shot with their 3 hybrid on a hole and get better results then they will do exactly that. The person in the other camp has to hit their the lob wedge on a 100 yard shot because that is how it should be done.
