With the windy conditions I’m sure he wanted to keep launch low. I think I read somewhere that it was working really well for him because he could hit a low controlled cut with it that the wind wouldn’t mess with. I’ve also anecdotally noticed in my own testing that over-length drivers tend to want to launch higher so that super low loft works well in this context. Hope a journalist will get a deep-dove with him because it’s a fascinating set up. 
 

Congrats to Phil!!!! So much fun to watch. Also love that he’s willing to do some next-level tinkering during major weeks!

And what about the putter? Best I have seen Phil putt in years. So much for face balanced, triple milled, unobtanium inserts. Good old forged steel. Any chance of Odyssey and Wilson making a killing on reissues?

How long has that Odyssey been in the bag? Admittedly I don't get to watch of PGATOUR golf, but it's the first time I've seen him use it. The last putter I recall him using was white and black, and, I think, more of a half mallet.

They can get more groves on the face, which creates more spin than the old deeper groves, according to Phil.

JW: Was switching to the LS ball ever a consideration?

Phil loves to try any new gear we create so I know he did try the LS but ultimately the CSX is a ball that holds this whole package together. The versatility of that ball with its speed and spin platform gives Phil an all-in-one ball that leaves zero on the table. The CSX ’20 has been vital to this whole process especially when we got him dialed into the Epic Speed, the draws stay in the air at an optimal spin rate (1900-1950) and the fade spin stays around 2300-2400. That is incredibly efficient at 175+ MPH ball speed. Keep in mind this ball also gives a ton of versatility from 180 and in. Phil is a player that likes to play with spin and to have a ball that launches like that off the driver and still gives a player like Phil what he needs around the greens is phenomenal.

I play the wilson 8802 and it was great to see phil gaming a similar putter.  These putters have the best feel and distance control is amazing. 

 

I have camerons, and Mills but for some reason i cannot kick the 8802 blade out of my bag.

Its his long ball option. I think he hit the mini just as much or more. That being said i gamed a 47” for a few months with no issues ball striking really. Now i did leak the ball right a little more than normal, but im positive i could have stuck with it and made it functional

Pretty awesome to watch yesterday!  Not sure what was "better;"  Phil walking up 18 after hitting his approach with winning a major at 50+ in his grasp or TW walking up 18 when he was about to win the 2018 Tour Championship.  Watching on TV was awesome, being there had to be electric!!

 

Now imagine yesterday without the fans present.  Glad to see the spectators back!  They definitely amp up the moment.
