Yup I do, for years I have played a 46 PW, so I went 46 52 58, the new set I'm getting has a 43 PW, so I'll go 43 50 58. Went to a 3 wedge bag years ago and love it.

Yes sir, I go from set PW (47ish) to 50-08, then 56-14.

If I need to create a certain flight I use PW. If I need bounce it's the 56, if I don't it's the 50. So much simpler than it used to be. When I had 4 wedges (including PW) and multiple bounce options I always felt like I need one of those laminated coaches' card-thingies, no offense to Dave Pelz. I guess that could be an indictment on my decision making abilities, but hey, a man's got to know his limitations.

Yep: 45 PW, 50 Gap, 56 SW.

Versatile grind(s) to cover a variety of conditions really help; shaft choice should not be discounted either, as these clubs will get a workout.

I do the exact same... pw, 52/58.... been playing this for a while for the exact reason that it does simplify things. The 52 can do a lot more than I thought years ago. Very happy with this set up.

I usually play 52, 56 and have done for years. Recently I've been alternating between 50, 56 and 52, 58. I gave up the common 52, 56, 60 combo years ago because the 60 tended to cost more shots than it saved me. Ideally I'd like to player 50, 54, 58 but that means dropping the 4 iron or a hybrid which I don't like to do. As someone else mentioned the 52 is a very versatile club for me around the green. 56 and 58 are mainly used from the sand.

50 56 I feel I can high flop or low run with the 56 and the 50 is for short pitches I don't necessarily need to check up fast

Back in the old days a PW was 50.5*(Eye 2). At that time I only carried a s/w in addition to the pw. Today my 50* is labeled a U and I have a 54 & 58 after that.

Currently playing pw..54...58

I can’t seem to find my tempo for my 100-105 shot just yet , so I just ordered a 50 today. Played last few years with a matching set U wedge at 50 degrees , and find comfort in having full swing yardage. Out with the 2 hybrid and in with the 50 when she arrives. To each there own, confidence before playing the shot is paramount in my opinion.

I have the same set-up.

I’ve learned to use trajectory, spin and knock down shots to hit certain yardage’s from the fairway and my 58* is my go to shot around the greens.

The most club ho’ing I’ve done has been with wedges. All the different shapes, grinds, lofts have been fun to tinker with. I’ve settle on a PW, 52, 58 setup. For some reason the simplicity has taken a lot of guess work out of green side and full shots. Anyone else use something similar?

... After years of playing 48-54-60 I made the switch several years ago to 52-58 to match up with my 46* pw. I was surprised how easy the adjustment actually was as I was expecting it to be more difficult. I use my 58* for virtually all shots around the green, pitches, chips and standard bunker shots. I originally learned the short game using my 60* and decided to get proficient at every shot before learning to use other clubs. I developed so much confidence with my 60* I never learned to use other clubs, although I will use my 52* for longer bunker shots and pitches into the wind.

I am going 48, 52-ish, & 58-ish.

The exact loft on my 58-ish club will be determined by how well the lofts around that number “interpret” my short game feels. When shots that I hit well start landing on my target landing spot, then I’ll know the loft on that club is correct.

The exact loft on my 52-ish club will then be whatever loft gives me the most variability in partial swing yardages with the 58-ish (and the 48, to a much smaller degree).

Specific jobs for specific clubs, that all will also be used for full swings as well.

My PW is 50* or thereabouts. I only have the 58* SW after and have played that way for more than 30 years. The difference is that what they call wedges these days are the short irons of the past.

This is my zip code, as well. I play either 55/60 on top of a 50* PW, or a lone 58.

Might play my PW at 52* this season, in which case I'll likely just use the 58* lone wedge.

I play three wedges: a 48° splitter that replaces both PW and GW, plus the 54° SW and 60° LW.

For several seasons I carried a 46° PW from iron set, plus CG14 in 50°, 54° and 58°. Four wedges was a hassle to manage and practice. Also, my wedge matrix for partial shots had several cells with duplicate yardages.

So, I played last season with just three. I can deloft wedges slightly for extra yards, or choke down to shave yards. Also, I use 9i for half and 3/4 shots on occasion.

Ask your club pro to give you some heel relief on your 58* and it will allow you to open a bit to 60* or more without the club face changing appearance much. Heel relief buys you a lot of clubs in the same club. The tricky part is learning to use it, which, again leads me to encourage the purchase of stainless clubs which will then allow you to use the same wedge forever and a day.

I recently switched to a 46*, 52*, and 58* in my wedges (pitching, gap, and lob). I was playing 46*, 50*, 54*, and 58*. I’m liking the current setup and it gives me room to fill the gap b/t my hybrids and irons.

I love golf

Same as you, OP...

PW 48.0°

GW 52.0°

LW 58.0°

I've played it for about 8 years now. Like you say, simplicity.

Now. I'd be lying if I didn't say that very, very, recently, I've been considering a 64.0°. BUT. To even be considered, the shape must be ideal, perfect. I. WILL. NOT. SETTLE. Would strictly be used for short sided shots, bunker shots and lobs. The only reason, ONLY, I'm even considering this is because my recent setup change leaves me playing only 13 clubs and the 14th slot is driving me nuts internally.

Pw(46), 52, 56 long long time, now 58.

The six degrees separation is a consequence of availablility back when he learned. You had a S wedge, then a A/G wedge. Nobody had a 54. But over time, the requirement to hit less than full shots helps maintain game feel and forces real focus.

Perhaps JP is finding a panacea in folly? Would not be the first time....
