Brand of golf bag should match clubs - change my mind

Recommended Posts

Ola WRX folks!

Looking for a new golf bag for 2021. Currently use a Sun Mountain hybrido, and interested in replacing it with the Ping Hoofer Craz-E-Lite.

My mental problem is ... I carry Callaway woods, TM hybrid, Titleist irons & wedges, NC putter.

Am I crazy (no pun intended) to think that my bag should match at least one of my clubs?

How did you pick your current bag?

My current bag is a Srixon bag. I play Srixon irons, but not why I bought the bag. It was just a good bag I got at a good price. I've carried Titleist bags in the past with no Titleist clubs.

It's just a bag. Find the one with the configuration you like and put your clubs in it.

I prefer bags that are made by bag companies.  Jones, Mackenzie, Sun Mountain, Stitch, Vessel.  The lone exception would be Ping, who has been making awesome stand bags my whole life.  In my opinion, Ping is a golf bag company that also makes golf clubs.

The other bags would simply be a billboard or advertisement for the clubmaker.  I prefer to not give away free advertising, much less pay to advertise for a company.

I tend to agree -- I'd want at least one of club of that manufacturer in the bag.  I use Ogio & Ping bags, so that formula works for me.

I do wear Titleist hats.  I have no Titleist clubs and seldom play a Titleist ball... 🤷‍♂️

I mean.. can’t really use a “mental thing” when you’re already carrying 4 different brands of clubs with a sun mountain bag, right??

AI Smoke Max @ 7* +8g front weight - Diamana DF 70tx(tipped 1.25”)

BRNR Mini 13.5(@12.5*) 43.25” - Diamana DF 70tx(tipped 1.75”)

TSR 3h 19* - AV Raw White 9x  -OR-  Fourteen Type 7 (19*) - $ taper black 125 s+(HS 1x)

Miura CB 1008 4-P - $ taper black 125 s+(HS 1x)

Cleveland RTX 6 50/55 - X100

Titleist SM9 60.12 D grind - S400

I currently have a Ping Hoofer Lite and I've had nothing but Ping bags for the last 15-20 years. I don't think I've ever owned a Ping club. I've used Ping bags because they are familiar, I know they will hold up well over time, and I just prefer the way they look compared to all of the other bag options.

With so many great bag makers out there I'm not sure why you would want to limit yourself to just 3 options. I mean do you only wear one brand of hat, shirt, pants, socks, and shoes when you head to the course? I assume no so why would you not get a bag you want or like just because it doesn't match the brand of one of your clubs?

See how well my bag matches my Signature listing? I don't think my clubs will mind too much.

Take the best in breed approach with your bag, as you’ve done with your clubs!

If you aren’t going a specialist bag brand like Ogio or Sun Mountain, and are stuck between choices, my default position would be to match the bag to your irons.

U could go with a brand that specializes in bags and accessories, like Vessel or Stitch, or even G-fore.

Matching problem solved.

The Ping bags are so good that when they wear out I just get another one. But they don’t wear out too often.

On the other hand, I'm a giant hypocrite because I wear all manner of clothes, shoes, and hats solely for the label, so what do I know?  I'm just an idiot with a keyboard, espousing opinions about golf bags to no one in particular in the middle of the day.

Well I say what ever floats one's boat. Personally I quit being a "mini sandwich man" years ago or being a free advertisement agent. That is why I use either my old school Jones or my Old school Burton no logo Mini Staff bag. But that is just me. Now I will tell the truth when playing vintage golf and riding I carry my Tartan green and white Macgregor Staff bag

When I'm paid to have (my caddie) carry it. Then it matters.

But I see you man and understand.  I'd love to find a legit Adam's bag.

I have seen several Adams staff bags on Flea Bay lately

I buy my bags based on the features I'm looking for and not on brand. I like a bag with a good cooler pocket, a putter well, a waterproof valuables pocket and an easy to get to rangefinder compartment. The one that fit the bill on my last purchase was a Callaway cart bag. My daughter picked the Red, White & Blue color for me. I'm after function not quirkiness.

Thanks, Crook. I got tired of non-waterproof 14 divider bags snagging my midsize grips and the nylon fading in the sun after 2-3 years. It won't happen with this old gem that was unused for $75.
