Unpopular Equipment Opinions

I have a few:

 

• I think club stamping looks unprofessional and cheap.
• Rust isn't a look; it's a dirty club. Get some CLR, would ya!
• Lead tape might be an experiment, but it looks terrible, and poisonous.

 

What are your unpopular opinions about equipment?

You should have at least one club that matches your bag brand

I can agree with the stamping, but I like rusted clubs and lead tape as it has a nice chew to it.

 

Mine would be: music on course, sunflower seeds and smoking.  Another would be when a group of people start screaming and running around the green because one of them chipped in or made a blood pact with the dark lord to make a putt longer than 5 ft.

That the ping blueprint is the best club ping ever produced.  ( not talking putters ).

Miura is overrated.

 

Cameron is overrated.

 

Low/low shafts and low loft driver heads create and then benefit swing flaws if you're not swinging in at least the high teens or 20's.  

 

Small, difficult to hit blades don't help new golfers by "making them concentrate more".

Agree with almost everything you have posted.  Music I don't mind as much unless it's so loud that you can hear it from 2 fairways over.

Scotty Cameron hasn’t made a quality putter since the Pro Platinum line.

 

Music on the course is an improvement for golf.

 

Taylormade is the best OEM right now, top to bottom.

My take: shaft impact is overrated

Getting "fit" for a putter is hilarious to me. It's the hammer of the tool box. Yes, there are different styles and you should find one that suites you for sure. But this does not require a professional if you are not a professional.

 

I had no idea it was even a thing until a few months ago.

Don't buy shovels with alot of offset. Buy blades, If you are not that good they will help you learn to focus more  so you can hit them.

I do not like the look of welded necks on custom putters. I just paid who knows how much money and to me that looks like an unfinished job.

Sounds like the guy I was stuck behind yesterday. I had never seen someone take the long a pre shot routine just to slice it dead into the trees. Wow, what a show.

Scott Cameron is a Ping knockoff.

 

Titleist is the Judge Smails of the equipment industry.

 

PXG is the AL Czervik of golf equipment. 

 

The Pro V1 is king....all the rest are commoners.

If you're solely relying on grips the size of a Pringles can to improve your game, you need practice, not grips.

 

Camerons aren't garbage if you get a decent model at a decent price, at least it will hold its value.

Hollow body irons are low spin. 

 

Your swing speed is high enough to be an X-Flex 

 

Hitting off mats will give you lower spin numbers. 
 

Hybrids are hook machines
