Foley hate?

Why do people hate Sean Foley? Because of his work with Tiger that Tiger wanted to make his swing look like Rose?

I don't hate someone i've never met....But man when he started working with Tiger some years ago he did some of the most arrogant interviews you could imagine. He was still pretty young and was hot sh*t at the time. He basically took a huge dump on Tiger's previous coaches , i remember an interview with golf digest where he said he had no idea what Haney was thinking or doing, like he was this complete idiot. 

 

This was like 5 minutes after he had started working with Tiger. As if Haney had no success working with Woods.

That was painful to watch and ridiculous. 

 

He may get some love this week unless Justin's back causes him any issues during the remainder of the tournament - then watch the screaming from the cheap seats!

My recollection was that was Tigers idea. Wanted his release to feel the same on all shots.

He seemed to do good work with Justin Rose. But when you watched range sessions at that time, he was a complete nag and way too involved & over doing it with a Pro who was warming up for a tournament. I saw it live, saw it on TV too. It's all about Foley. Probably talks in 3rd person about himself.

Is Foley's list of successful students longer than the list of those that got worse under his care?

 

Rose' swing hasn't changed very much from his pre-Foley days if you go look at it on YouTube.

 

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of his general appearance. He seems to be trying too hard and compensating for something.

 

And he had Tiger keeping his weight on the left side like a stack and tilt swing. It was hideous. Ridiculous amounts of forward shaft lean and too steep. You can hit it further that way with the irons but ultimately it's not a repeatable or healthy motion. 

 

Yes it was Tigers' fault for going to Foley. Foley must be a great salesman.

Ok. But all of the people that are double digit indexes at WRX know better than the man himself and his players? Right? 

 

Same as how wrong people here are about David Ledbetter being so awful as an instructor in spite of his success stories and think that the solution to any players swing issues is to "Call Butch". Please.

 

So many preconceived notions by people here about instructors that are plain wrong. Same as with equipment. Then again.... that's WRX.

I might be going into the wind here but I don’t mind him. I didn’t like the work he did with Tiger and at the time, I was not a fan but I think a large part of that was because he was not Butch. I was the same with Haney when he started working with TW. For whatever reason, in my mind, it was Butch or nothing when it came to Tiger.

 

Now that we are years on from that, Foley doesn’t bother me at all. His posts on social media I like, they are informative and tell us what players are working on which is always interesting.

He makes a lot of effort to portray himself as on a higher level than his peers to the degree that I find his work esoteric.  Either that or I am dumb?  PS. this is not a poll.

 

I prefer the Butch approach - "Hit the ******* ball.  Nice ball, do that."

When they compress the ball, part of what is happening is the air is releasing from the inside of the ball out through the seams. That is part of the noise. It is kind of like when a baseball wraps around the barrel of the bat, when they have that tremendous crack. That is the air leaving out through the seams. That is part of it.

 

 

Foley responded to my email question about the remark with the following comment:

Unfortunately that show is live at 7:20am, which is sometimes very early after my son has decided to not go to sleep. The sound from impact in baseball is in part due to the the ball forming around the barrel. The compression or sound of compression comes from the air leaving the seams at the deepest point of linear force. My analogy was not to use golfball but baseball as showing two forms of compression in hitting or swinging. The sound that comes from compression in the golf swing is created by a few physical happenings. Obviously club-velocity, angle of approach, angle of descent, contact point on club that transfers the momentum(mass * velocity). The sound that is heard just post impact as the ball travels is the friction between the ball and the air which is creates drag(gravities effect). I t is a combination of those variables.

1. The lofty reputation of Peloton instructors
2. Anyone named Keith
3. BOA fit system for shoes (laces are too complicated?)
4. The term brain cramp 
5. Justin Leonard's prominent bracelet with charms
